Parking at BWC 2011

Your best bet is to arrive by bus, train or plane and use public transportation (MBTA Public Transportation). If at all possible don’t drive to the hotel. Parking can be expensive and challenging (parking options).

However we have worked out a deal to park at MIT that you may be able to take advantage of if you hurry.

Here’s the 411:

Parking Passes for the MIT parking lot.

Location of the parking lot is here. It is just under 2 miles from the Sheraton hotel. You can walk back to the hotel or walk to Mass Ave and catch the 1 Bus over the river and then walk to the Sheraton. More detailed directions will be available when you check in at the hotel. Here’s a map to the parking.

There is no cost to park in the MIT lot for Dec. 31st, Jan. 1st, and Jan. 2nd. However Parking Passes are needed for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th.  People who leave the lot by 7:30am on the 5th do not need a pass for that day.

It’s $13 per day for Jan 3rd, 4th, and 5th. If you don’t need to use one of these days, you can pay less. If you don’t want to pay for Jan. 5th you will need to have your car out of the lot by 7:30 am, or you may get ticketed.

If you want a parking pass, and they are first come first served, please email Chris Swanson with your name, cell number, and if you need a 1, 2, or 3 day pass.

Meals at BWC

All meals at BWC are on your own so you will need to bring some extra cash to buy food. There are numerous restaurants and fast food joints in the Prudential Center and outside of the hotel, as well as a Shaw’s grocery store.
Want to save some money on food? Remember that you won’t have access to a microwave or refrigerator. (Ideas of what to buy: peanut butter, fluff, jelly, chips, granola bars, protein bars, loaf of bread, pudding, carrots, pretzels, apples, bananas, oranges, candy, chocolate, soda, water bottle, etc.)

Hack a free BWC before Monday

http://vimeo.com/17165419

I have gained access to the control levers of the BWC machinery. I am able to pull those levers once without detection. This means that I can offer one free admission to the Boston Winter Conference between now and Monday after Thanksgiving. That’s when the BWC honchos revive from their tryptophan induced holiday malaise. Until then I have access to the the BWC matrix. Read closely, this is how one of you can win.

In order for me to identify you, you must post the following on the Wall of the Boston Winter Conference Facebook Fan Page before Monday, November 29th, 2010. Type the words, “I am going to BWC”. Early Monday morning I will look for your message on the wall. If there is more than one who reads this message and posts on the wall, then I will pray and choose one of you at random. I will hack inside the BWC Registration database. If I find there that you have completed a $50 pre-registration for BWC 2011, then for one of you, and only one, I will pull the levers of the BWC Machinery and I will refund your $50 and give you a free BWC.

Remember, type the words, “I am going to BWC”,  on the wall of the Boston Winter Conference Facebook Fan Page before Monday, and if you haven’t already done so, complete your $50 pre-registration for BWC 2011.

Don’t make this message futile. Act before Monday.

Update: Parking Passes at BWC

As mentioned here, Your best bet is to arrive by bus, train or plane and use public transportation (MBTA Public Transportation). If at all possible don’t drive to the Sheraton Boston. Parking can be expensive and challenging.

However, we have new information on the Parking Passes since our last update.

Anyone who does not pre-order their pass can still get passes but it will cost $36 (on-site when they show up) instead of $24.

And the deadline to pre-order the $24 pass has been extended until Dec. 27th.

Cost: $24 (pre-order) for January 1-6 (must leave the parking lot by 1:30pm on the 6th) – you can pay an extra $12 if you need to park the whole day on the 6th. Location: about 1.7 miles from the Sheraton on the MIT campus. Click on this link to see the location and directions: parking map

How to get to the Sheraton from parking lot:  walk to Massachusetts Ave and take the 1 Bus across the river to the Hynes bus stop and walk about 3 minutes to the Sheraton.  Cost of a bus ride is $1.50.  You would also take the 1 Bus back over the river to MIT to return to the parking lot.

Other Details:  You can come and go anytime.  You will need to have the parking pass in your car at all times.  MIT is not responsible for stolen items from your car.  Just don’t leave anything of value in your car.
